I ordered this book because my blood work showed I had the testosterone of an 80 year old. Before starting any therapy I wanted to understand the whole process so I looked for the best information out there. I read a few books and then found Jay's book; The Definitive Testosterone Replacement Therapy MANual" Far and away the most detailed information on this subject. It enabled me to ask the right questions to the head of the clinic. I still refer to it so I keep current. Now Jay ios coming out with a a revised edition and am already on the pre-order list. The book is worth every penny if you are considering TRT. Don't start something like this unless you fully understand all aspect of the treatment. Jay's book will fully educate you and you can get the most out of TRT.
I don't suffer from low testosterone, but I still read this book as a preventive measure and to learn more about the subject. I learned a lot and would recommend it for other young guys. Details below: * I'm 24 years old, and my health is near-optimal at the moment I believe. I've struggled with major health issues, so I both value and appreciate the importance of having a good health, and everything it entails (higher energy levels, more motivation and mental focus, higher baseline happiness, etc). * Even though I suspect (?) my testosterone levels are quite good currently (I have maybe 5-10% BF and quite muscular), this book has convinced me to START DOING BLOOD, ASAP. Why? To gain as much data on my hormonal levels, vitamins, minerals (and other vitals) as early as possible in life--for preventive reasons. * Will I use TRT when I get older? Probably. But that's a decision I will make 10-15 years from now. In the meantime, I want to collect reliable data, so that I can make my decision as intelligently as possible; so that the decision will be easy to make when it has to be made. For, as the philosopher Baltasar Gracian said: "The wise do at once what the fool does at last." * Instead of trying to fix problems, think ahead and prevent them. This includes testosterone. * As an added bonus, reading this book did two did two additional things for me:1) it made me curious to experiment with carb cycling.2) it confirmed most of my knowledge about diet and nutrition. Minimize sugar and alcohol. Eat this stuff daily: broccoli, spinach, coconut oil, (high quality!) omega 3s, pumpkin seeds, and really focus on optimizing essential fatty acids (EFAs). The authors don't recommend it, but you should also eat oregano. It is probably the most healthy spice (3-4x more antioxidants than blueberries).
The title is pretty self explanatory. The chapters cover everything someone new to (or considering) testosterone replacement therapy. You can spend many hours reading the various helpful forums on the web (like TRTrevolution) or you can start here, and give yourself a jump start on everything you'll want to know before starting trt. Realize that this is in some respects a relatively new field of medicine, and is still undergoing tweaks to further enhance the results. TRT has been around for many years, but if you listen to Jay's podcast, you'll hear that he works with the very best experts in this field. He didn't come up with TRT, but as he says it: "he's stood on the shoulders of giants" to bring you the best information possible.
I am a doctor looking for a users perspective on testosterone optimization. I was happy to see the specific protocol recommended as well as the recommendations for lab testing both pre replacement and to monitor ongoing therapy. I liked that there were plenty of references. I will be reviewing those and doing my own literature searches to assure myself of the safety of these protocols. I do appreciate the mention of herbal adjuncts as well as other medications that can also be used in conjunction with TRT. I also appreciate the warning that without proper diet and exercise and lifestyle modification, TRT will NOT work.
People. It's all about People. Jay Campbell cares about people and you'll see that in his book, his way of life and how he goes out of his way to help everyday brothers looking for answers. I had some questions about testosterone and my overall health and Jay immediately got in touch with me via email then text and stopped me from potentially making a very bad health choice; he pointed me in the right direction, and I feel so much more confident after talking with him and reading his book. The book: like Jay it starts off by cutting through the BS that's out there and giving you some facts that he'll go on TV, podcasts, blogs and direct phone calls when he's challenged about them. Science isn't about being right; it's about finding out what's right. That's Jay's mission. The book gets 5 stars because you can read it in 3 hours or spend 3 years diving into the research Jay presents and 3 decades going into the numerous works cited to undergo your own education, which should never end. Jay isn't about telling dudes what to do, but about educating guys about their options. This book, like Jay, keeps it simple: Guy's wanna feel good, look good, have good sex, and live a youthful life for as long as possible; and then if that sorta thing sounds like what you want–here's the science, the research, the data. And please challenge it. I'm guessing that's what the impetus was for Jay to write this book: wanting to know the truth, and not what some dude in a white coat was spitting out as gospel. SHOW ME THE EVIDENCE! Jay comes at you like Neil Degrasse Tyson and Tony Horton got meshed into one dude with a huge heart.
