I had the honor and privilege to work under Cpt. Hill and 1st SGT Scott on FOB Airborne. I'm glad the truth is out, this book tells everything that happened on FOB Airborne. I will never forget these two great leaders. To this day have kept in contact with a few of the soldiers in the book; Sgt. Pierce, SGT. Doyle, and Cpt. Hill. The book so far has been very well written, can't wait to continue reading. Currahee!

I couldn't put this book down from the moment I started reading it. Great story and a page-turner, action starts from the very beginning. Had butterflies in my stomach during some of the missions, then got very angry at the lack of support for our infantry in combat and the rules that bind their hands. Also at the lack of due process afforded the brave men who prioritize the safety of their soldiers over politics. If you're a student of conflict, love true-to-life combat stories, are politically aware or conscious of the issues that affect the sons & daughters we send to war, or if you're just a proud American, then this book is for you.

This is an awesome book!!! The respect I have for these men and what they went and still going through can't be put into words!! I know Tommy Scott and Rodger Hill truly care for their men, and their men love them!! I too was dissed by the Army, although not in the same way!! I didn't have a place to stay one I arrived to Campbell from Germany!!! Only had one friend there and he was on his way out!!! So he took me to Tommy Scott's house. Scott heard my story and without knowing me from a deranged killer, gave me a key to his home and said, I got you!! We've been best friends since!! God's willing I will meet CPT Hill next month!! I've talked to him once through Tommy!!! As I read this book is laugh one minute and pissed off the next....that's when I call my buddy Tommy and talk for a bit!!!!

A riveting story of contrasts in America. On one side you have "salt of the earth" types, who would literally take a bullet in an effort to save their brother soldiers serving with them. On the other side are the "Praetorian Guard" officers and NCO's, who's primary mission was to further their own careers, oftentimes at the expense of those serving under them.It sounds like the top military leadership at the time was promoting the concept of "economy of force"; i.e. doing more with less. Some officers, looking to embellish their prospects for promotion, took their marching orders to the extreme. They pushed small combat field units to form outposts in remote areas, oftentimes in geographical locations that were indefensible. Then to save money they routinely slowed down or eliminated request for basic supplies such as food, water, ammunition, and replacement material lost in combat. These under supplied, under manned units, were then pressed to pursue the enemy in poorly planned, and sometimes pointless missions, often times without sufficient support; i.e. artillery, air assets, etc. These men were put in a pressure cooker of extremes, where even the best officers and NCO's eventually were compelled to take extraordinary action in a last ditch effort to save their men from annihilation. Afterwards these same officers,NCO's, and their subordinates are disciplined without any regard for the extreme circumstances they were operating under. These men, who sounded like they represented the best in America, were treated as pariahs, legally prosecuted and in some cases drummed out of the Army that had become their extended family and their life's focus. It was hard to hold back the tears during parts of the book. One can only hope that these men will find solace, and emotional renewal as their lives move forward. An incredible book that was impossible to put down for long.

I'm not much of a reader, but it's very hard to put this book down once you start reading it. I've experienced just about every emotion possible while reading this book. It is definitely worth the read, and you won't be disappointed.

Great story about an amazing group of soldiers. I was amazed at their bravery and courage. I was sickened by the political correctness of the army.

A slew of unforgettable dramatic events extremely well documented from many accounts. Filled my memory gaps of such a crazy time. This should be required reading for all, especially officers. Sometimes we need reminded that we are on the same team and utmost trust should be given until PROVEN otherwise. A key example of how "facts" can be created and skewed with assumptions and rumor. The injustice that was done upon D Co, without proof or knowledge of the ground truth by those in air conditioned offices is one of the saddest things I've witnessed. Let there be no mistake, First Sergeant Scott is one of the most disciplined, role model soldiers and leaders I have met in my career, and CPT Hill was an incredible leader who undoubtedly protected his men from more wounded and killed from their higher's misguided direction.

I found the book literally impossible to put down. The story is amazingly riveting and at the same time maddening. The CYA actions of non combat staff officers giving orders to those who put their lives on the line constantly is inexcuseable. American soldiers should not have to fight under such ridiculous rules of engagement. A must read for anyone wondering what's going on in Afghanistan.
